CLIENT
Supply chain focused company with around 600 employees ad $500million in annual revenue
2.SUMMARY:
A global manufacturer of liquid distribution equipment and government supply had a manual process for their internal software development processes resulting in time consuming and high-risk deployments. The implementation of a full CICD pipeline and supporting processes streamlined deployments from over six hours to minutes.
3.PAIN POINTS:
The client faced challenges with development with no structured processes for deployment of code changes. The coordination of changes from multiple developers also required excessive manual effort to reconcile and integrate. Quality assurance for the changes was limited and inefficient. As a result, deployments through multiple environment levels were time consuming, often taking over six hours per environment. When issues were encountered, roll backs were equally time consuming and difficult. Such issues could result in significant down time.
3.HOW WE SUCEEDED:
Through structured reorganization of the internal teams, and implementation of CICD pipelines the development process was streamlined, strengthened, and shortened.
By restructuring the infrastructure team to better align to core competencies and organizational needs operations were optimized allowing the new team to take on new initiatives to increase innovation.
The help desk was reorganized as its own team focused on day to day support and partnering with external managed service provider. This resulted in improved problem resolution times, increased documentation, and overall integration between the teams.
With the automation of the build, test and deployment of software changes deployment windows were reduced dramatically from over six hours for each deployment to under an hour. Incidence of issues during deployment requiring roll back were reduced, and for limited instances that did require rollback return to service was similarly streamlined from hours to minutes.
